San Diego to hold second
annual mariachi concert

The San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce with the cooperation of Amigo Brothers is presenting their Second Annual Viva el Mariachi concert at the Coors Amphitheater in Chula Vista on October 8, 2000.

This years event brings the oldest family Mariachi in Mexico, the world famous Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. For over 100 years Mariachi Vargas has entertained throughout Mexico, and the rest of the world. They are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest group still playing.

Joining the festival is tradition and gender breaker Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, a group of beautiful women ranging in age from 14 to 34.

Then there is Mariachi Cobre, a 12 piece ensemble of violins, trumpets and guitars.

Also appearing is one of the nation's premier groups, Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez, who created the group in 1981. Together the 14 member orchestrated mariachi group mesmerize the audience with the song of their
culture.

Proceeds from the Viva El Mariachi Festival are used to provide mariachi classes to schools children in the South Bay region.
