Chicano Federation responds to concerns of crossing picket line

By David Valladolid

Editor’s note: A labor dispute exists at the San Diego Coronado Hotel where employees have been holding an informational picket outside the hotel. On September 8, the Chicano Federation is scheduled to hold their annual dinner at the hotel. HispanicVista.com obtained this message sent by the Chicano Federation addressing the concerns of pro-union citizens.

I have recieved several calls of concern regarding the Chicano Federation’s Dinner this Saturday and the labor dispute at the Del Coronado.

Yesterday, I reached an agreement with both the Jerry Butkiewicz, Sec/Treasurer of the SD/Imperial Valley Labor Council  and Jef Eatchel, HERE-Hotel & Resturant Employees union that they will hold-off their information picket on Saturday.

There is no official strike by the employees at this time! — they are using the information picket to pressure
the hotel to negotiate fairly.

The Chicano Federation has hand delivered a letter to the Hotel Del Coronado supporting the workers (most of whom are Latinos) and urging the hotel to settle this labor dispute.  Like many of you, I would not cross a picket line but I have assured that the picketing has been canceled for Saturday evening.

I hope this clears the way for all of you to join us this Saturday.
