Shakira electrified; Colombian singer celebrates two Latin Grammy wins

By Enrique Lopetegui

“I didn’t expect this one,” said Shakira upon receiving the first of two Latin Grammys (Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for “Octavo Día” and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Ojos Así”).

“I was very moved, because [everybody’s] here to celebrate with me. Achievements are worthless if you don’t have anybody to celebrate it with.”

After winning her second trophy, the Colombian went to the press area to answer questions from the international press. As she entered the room, the TV screens showed Carlos Vives performing “Fruta Fresca.”

“Look, there’s Carlos,” said Shakira to her publicists, and started dancing while the press area managers begged her to start answering questions. She complied.

The very first question was about her romance with the Argentine president's son, who was sitting next to her during the ceremony. Will she get married soon?

“Wait, wait…I'm not even thinking about that,” said Shakira. “We’re enjoying the romance, we have short-term plans only.”

After a couple of questions, she switched to English to praise the 1st Latin Grammys.

“I think the whole show was very complete. We’re very lucky our market is showing that it is very solid. The stars we have are not only stars, but artists,” Shakira said.
