LIMA — Protesters have blocked all access to the Inca ruins at Machu Picchu for four days complaining that President Alberto Fujimori’s government has neglected the region for years.

The roads were blocked by hundreds of local farm workers, students and teachers said police officials.

The protesters are demanding that the government immediately send funding to improve the region’s infrastructure.

On Wednesday protesters blocked the famous single-track railway line that carries tourists up to Machu Picchu.

The protestors also want the government to shut down the ruins to tourists and further exploitation. They cite that an ancient sundial was damaged by a camera crew shooting a beer commercial.
