What's best a short or
long term policy?
Mexican auto insurance can
be purchased for one, two, three or more days, or
for a week, or two, or more, or for a month or
two or more all the way up to a one year policy.
Obviously, the longer the
term of coverage the less the cost per day. No
matter for how long the insurance is purchased,
there is a processing cost. That cost is
compressed into the time the insurance covers.
What is best for the
individual traveler depends on the particular
needs. For those visiting along the border towns
once or twice a year for a day or two, it's best
to buy the insurance to cover only those days.
Frequent Mexico visitors
would be best served with longer term insurance.
Annual policies range from $50 to $150 depending
on the amount of coverage and supplemental
benefits obtained. The short period policies can
cost up to $25 with supplemental benefits.
Visiting the border region for some weekends
during the course of a year does not take long
for the annual policy to become a much better
buy, and avoids the hassle of having to get a new
policy for each visit.
